Pittsburgh Abides: “Obviously You Are Not a Golfer”
With interactives, games, contests, and cosplay, Pittsburgh Abides is more than just a screening of the movie. Now in our fourth year, we’re not exactly lightweights. Because Pittsburgh is a city of champions and a city of achievers, we are once again expanding this homage to all things Dude. This year we have added a citywide, themed scavenger hunt. Earn points, bring us a toe by 3 pm and you could win prizes. Plus, we will still have two floors of activities, contests and music.
Be an achiever and compete in trivia, ear spitting, ringer toss, a costume contest and more. Play a few rounds of golf bowling, or see if you can score under par on our mini golf course, featuring holes designed and built by Pittsburgh artists that include Mike Budai, Ashley Brickman, and Tommy Bones Werner.
You’re invited to mingle at Jackie Treehorn’s Garden Party, but you must remain in character. Pitch your Lebowski sequel to Patrick Jordan (Barebones Productions/Black Box Theater). Sign up to perform your version of the movie in under two minutes for our Less-Big Lebowski competition. Peter Kope (Attack Theater) will once again judge our dance competition. Plus, a movie quote-off, a reading of the Big Lebowski’s will, and more.
Alexi Morrissey (Adventure Bingo) will be the host for the evening’s festivities. Music performances by the F*cking bEagle Brothers, and Charlie Hustle and the Grifters as The Dude’s Tape Deck. DJ Special Lady Friend will provide classic rock jams early in the evening, and DJ Strobe will play a late-night set, making an appearance as Autobahn.
Steer & Wheel is once again delivering In & Out-style burgers, while the Second Breakfast truck will offer lingonberry pancakes and pigs in a blanket.
Both floors of Spirit will feature video projections and Lebowski-themed décor. Channel your inner Maude and ride our zipline. Co-star in your own beaver picture and be on the lookout for the Knutsens. Commonweath Press T-shirts, stickers, beer koozies, and commemorative collectable posters designed by Mike Budai will be available.
We’re Yinzers Who Love the Big Lebowski
Pittsburgh Abides is more than just a screening of the movie. Now in YEAR 4, we’re not exactly lightweights. Because Pittsburgh is a city of champions and a city of achievers, we are expanding this homage to all things Dude to two floors of activities, contests and music. Oh yeah, and we’ll still show the movie.
Be an achiever and compete in trivia, ear spitting, ringer toss, a costume contest and more. Take a dance lesson and perform your “cycle” onstage for our panel of judges. Alexi Morrissey (host of Adventure Bingo) will emcee the trivia and cycle performances. A Pittsburgh “supergroup” organized by the bEagle Brothers (silent b) will perform original renditions of some of your not so favorite songs. DJ Special Lady Friend will provide classic rock jams (not the Eagles, man!) and Charlie Hustle and the Grifters will make a return appearance. We are teaming up with DJ Strobenhoff (he believes in Nossing) to hold a German techno-pop themed dance party to round out the night.
